Where does this name come from? It’s ancient time…
Pearls were first founded in the Persian Gulf. Ancient queens such as Cleopatra from Egypt loved the pearls. Chinese queen, Yang gui fei as well.
In the oldest written description about pearls, the pearls were presented to the Chinese emperor as early as 2300 BC. At that time, all pearls were natural, very rare and precious. They were considered the ultimate status symbol of Rome too.In the 1st century BC, Julius Caesar in ancient Rome, passed a law limiting the wearing of pearls only to the ruling classes.
The legend stated that pearls were formed from ”dewdrop from the moon” into the ocean.
Before Ise Shima became the advent of the cultured pearls, the Persian Gulf was the center of the pearl trade and it was a source of wealth in the region long before the discovery of oil.
